Trichantera Gigantea
Madre de Agua is a forage that can grow up to five (5)
meters high. It produces aerial roots
hanging on the branches when the plant is already mature. Madre de Agua is a native shrub in northern,
central and southern parts of America while It can grow well in tropical
countries like Cambodia, Philippines and Vietnam.

The plant has many uses to both human and livestock. Although not many knew, the leaves are used
to enhance milk production during lactating periods of nursing human
mothers. Many livestock owners use Madre
de Agua as feed alternative. Leaves can
be given to animals either fresh or dried – chopped, powdered or whole leaves
depending on the type of animal being fed.
For pigs, cows, carabaos, and goats, it is recommended that they be fed
with whole fresh leaves. For chickens
and ducks, chopped or crushed leaves are recommended
Studies show that the crude protein of Madre de Agua
averages from 22%-25%, it is indeed high enough to even make it as an additive
to enhance nutritive values of commercial feeds. Feeding livestock with crushed or powdered leaves
in addition to commercial feeds enable livestock to produce higher quantity and
